Service Connection Information

Billing and Payments

  • Your utility bill can now be paid by credit/debit card online – Visit the ‘Pay Utility Bill Online‘ subtab or use the ‘Pay Bill Online‘ button on the Home Page.
    • The Town DOES NOT hold credit/debit card information.
    • The Town DOES NOT have an automatic payment/billing option.
  • Mail in Checks/Cash to

  • Visit Town Hall and pay in-person with any option at
    • 109 Main St, Hot Springs, MT 5984

If your account goes unpaid for a long period of time (i.e. months of unpaid bills) and you have accrued a significantly large balance, the balance on the account will be assessed to the property’s taxes on June 1st.

Water Service Information

  • Monthly Base Rates & Meter Sizes
    • $30.82 — 0.75″ Meter
    • $55.16 — 1″ Meter
    • $123.28 — 1.5″ Meter
    • $220.05 — 2″ Meter
  • Usage Rate
    • $2.00 per 1000 gallons of water use.
  • Availability Fee
    • Same Monthly Base Rate — Determined by Meter Size
    • An Availability Fee is the terminology used for a Water Meter that has been provided to the property, but has is currently not in use. (i.e. it is available to be used in the future)
  • Late Fees & Other Fees
    • Renter’s Deposit — $200
      • Renter’s Deposits are required if you are a new tenant in the home (this does not apply if you just purchased the home and are the property owner). This fee must be paid before the account will be put into your name, and this fee cannot be waived by the owner of the property.
      • This covers and unpaid balances left by a renter who have moved out without paying their bill. If there is any remaining deposit left after zeroing the account, it will be returned to the renter who provided the deposit.
      • If the account has a zero balance upon moving out and the renter has paid and portion of the upcoming bill that they may be responsible for, the full amount will be returned to said renter.
    • Late Fee — $ 10
      • Payments are due by the 10th of each month. If your bill in not paid in full, late fees will be assessed and added to the account on the 15th of each month (or the following business day if the 15th is a weekend or holiday).
      • If your bill has not been paid by the 15th, a notice will be hung on your door notifying you that if your bill is not paid in full by the 25th, your water service will be shut off until you account has a Zero Balance, and you will also accrue a Delinquent Termination Fee (see below for information)
    • Delinquent Termination Fee — $50
      • This fee will be assessed to your account if you do not pay your full account balance by the 25th of each month. This fee is applied as a joint Delinquent Termination Fee with the Wastewater fee. (There is not an additional $50 Delinquent Termination Fee for the Wastewater side.)
    • Delinquent Termination Fee : After Hours —  $75.00
      • If your service is shut off due to Delinquency, and you wish for you service be reinstated after working hours of the Town Employee, a $75 dollar fee will be charged to your account (instead of the original fee of $50).
  • Sometimes during the winter months, residential meters are not able to be read (due to ice pack, etc..), the usage will be estimated based upon the previous year’s use.  All meters will be read after the winter months and additional charges or credits will be given as necessary.  The winter months will be established as September 16th to March 16th of each year.  First reading of spring will be approximately April 16th.

Wastewater Service Information

  • Usage Rate
    • $2.05 per 1000 gallons of water use.
  • Monthly Unmetered Residential Rates
    • Base Charge (0.75″ Meter) + Estimated Use Rate (based on Resident Count)
      • 1 Person — 1500 Gallon Estimated Use
        • $26.44 + (1500 Gal * $2.05/1000 Gal) = $29.52
      • 2 Person — 3000 Gallon Estimated Use
        • $26.44 + (3000 Gal * $2.05/1000 Gal) = $32.59
      • 3-6 Person — 6000 Gallon Estimated Use
        • $26.44 + (6000 Gal * $2.05/1000 Gal) = $38.74
  • Late Fees & Other Fees
    • Late Fee — $ 10

New Service Connections

Water Service Connection

  • Base Cost — $3500
  • This Includes:
    • Connection to the Town Water Services.
    • Polyethylene Water Line up to 100′ from the Water Main to your property.
      • Any length over 100′ is an additional $20 per foot.
      • Size of the Water Line and Meter is determined by connection type (Residential, Commercial, etc.) and may be at the discrepancy of the Town to select any particular size.
    • A Meter Pit will be install and the edge of your property on the Town’s Right-of- Way (unless an alternate location has be discussed).
    • A ‘Tail’ will be left for the new customer to connect to at a later time.
      • This requires the Town to dig 1-3′ feet into your property to provide adequate ‘tail’ length and space from the Meter Pit.
    • The Town is responsible for all water line up to and including the Meter Pit. Any water line on the customer’s side of the Meter Pit will be maintained and cared for by the customer.
  • Any special or extra requirements may add additional costs and fees, which will be discussed beforehand.

Wastewater Service Connection

  • Base Cost — $2500
    • This Includes:
      • Connection to the Town Wastewater Services.
      • PVC Pipe up to 20′ from the Wastewater Main to your property.
        • Any length over 20′ is an additional $30 per foot.
        • 4” Schedule 40 PVC piped is mandatory for new service connections.
      • A ‘Stub’ will be left for the new customer to connect to at a later time.
        • This requires the Town to dig 1-3′ into your property to provide adequate ‘stub’ length.
  • ALTERNATE CONNECTION
    • Depending on property location, it may be required that the customer used a forced/pressurized wastewater line.
    • Costs remain the same, will the exception that the customer will be required to purchase a ‘Grinder Pump’. This will grind your waster and pump the waste to the Town Wastewater Main.
    • This Connection Includes:
      • Connection to the Town Wastewater Main via a 1.25″ polyethylene pressure line.
      • A ‘Tail’ will be left for the customer to connect to at a later time.
        • This requires the Town to dig 1-3′ feet into your property to provide adequate ‘tail’ length.
  • The Customer is responsible for all wastewater service line up to the Town Wastewater Main after connection.
  • Any special or extra requirements may add additional costs and fees, which will be discussed beforehand.
